Work Experience

Senior Developer

2007-Present

Blast Radius

Working in Blast Radius’ Technology department involves long and short-term project work, for Blast Radius’s clients as well as on internal efforts.

Major Projects:

·     Lead developer on Visa Online, a redesign and reimplementation of Visa’s US merchant extranet.  Implemented a custom CMS solution for Visa’s content authors, integrated new system with Visa’s existing security infrastructure, ported many components from Java/JSP to C#/ASP.NET, created technical and non-technical documentation, and trained Visa personnel in the use of the system.

·     Starbucks Custom Card – worked with Blast Radius and Starbucks team members in the implementation of new ecommerce site functionality, enabling the creation, purchase, and fulfillment, and shipping of user-customizable Starbucks cards.  Worked in VBScript using Microsoft Commerce Server and Starbucks’ in-house web framework.

·     Member of the Solution Accelerator for Communications Providers team, which develops an ATG-based turn-key ecommerce package for use by mobile, POTS, data, and TV service providers.  Contributed code for internationalization, AJAX integration, build and deployment, and full-tier testing (unit, integration, functional UI, acceptance) using jUnit, ATG DUST, Selenium, and GreenPepper.

Software Developer

2004-2007

Intrawest

As part of the Advance Sales Technology team, developed and maintained the applications and systems that drive and support all of Intrawest’s online and phone bookings.  Participated in the architectural design and implementation of a C# domain model which encapsulates all business logic in a library common to all applications, as well as serving as an object-relational mapping layer.  Was active in the design and administration of the software development process, including source control, nightly builds, deployment procedures, and bug tracking.

Major Projects:

·     Rewrote from the ground up the packaging subsystem.  Added significant new functionality (dynamic packaging and pricing, variable-length durations) and streamlining the package booking workflow in the call center and online booking applications, leading to a much-improved user interface experience and a significant increase in package bookings.

·     Architected and implemented the internationalization of the domain model, allowing for transparent access to all database-backed entities in any language in an efficient manner.  Designed and developed the user interface used by translators to input new translations, and integrated it with the existing administration applications.

·     Rewrote the notification system.  This high-volume system is responsible for sending trip itineraries to Intrawest’s customers, as well as notifying vendors of new or modified bookings.  Converted the system from one that used XSL transforms operating on XML source documents (the legacy architecture relied on XML web services) to one that worked directly with C# domain entity objects.  Adapted and extended an open-source templating engine (nVelocity) for output generation.

Software Developer / Systems Administrator

2003-2004

Lasso Datasystems

Developed key modules of an industry-leading CRM web application, adding webmail, scheduling, custom email template creation, and email tracking capabilities. Designed and implemented an efficient agile development and documentation process, and trained the development team in its use. Administered production and development server clusters running Linux, PHP, Perl, and MySQL.

Research Assistant

2000-2001

University of British Columbia, Faculty of Commerce

Installed, configured, and secured Linux servers for the MIS PhD Research Group. Gathered requirements from graduate students, then designed and implemented many web sites with extensive instrumentation for tracking user actions and navigation paths, for use in e-commerce web site interface experiments. For the acquired data, developed report-generating tools to be used by non-programmers.  Built a web-based tool for recording, cross-linking, and searching bibliographic references, used by the entire group in its research activities. Made extensive use of PHP, MySQL, Perl, DHTML, and JavaScript.

Tier 2 Technical Support / Internal Applications Developer

1999-2001

University of British Columbia, ITServices

Worked in a team environment providing phone, email, and in-person support to users of the university's campus and dial-up network. Troubleshooted software, hardware, and network problems in Windows 95/98 & NT, MacOS, and Unix environments. Developed in-house web-based project management applications using PHP, MySQL, and Perl, and performed security audits on the corporate Intranet.
